Based on Hector Malot's "Sans Famille." For this animated adaptation, the main character has been changed from a boy to a girl. The show became the last in the "World Masterpiece Theater" Series, and it won an award (the Best Children's Television Program) from Japan's Ministry of Culture in 1996.
