Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Utada Hikaru's debut, this project captures her first nationwide tour in six years, "SCIENCE FICTION TOUR 2024," from the perspectives of nine photographers.
This initiative aims to preserve the tour as a photobook and artistic work for future generations.
The project is named after a short story by the American novelist J.D. Salinger.
Like that gem of a story, the project documents the nine-city tour (live performances) of Utada Hikaru, with contemporary leading artists such as Kimura Kazuhei, Suzuki Chikashi, Hosokura Mayumi, Kawauchi Rinko, Moriyama Daido, John Yuyi, Wing Shya, Honma Takashi, and Noguchi Rika capturing each city through their unique lenses, woven together as a visual language through photography.
This collaboration between Utada Hikaru, an unparalleled artist, and the finest photographers results in an unprecedented new form of live photography and photobooks.
Through the eyes of these photographers, the live performances-and the very essence of Utada Hikaru-are immortalized for 5 years, 50 years, 100 years, and beyond.
