A Japan-only compilation album combining the live performance at the Newport Jazz Festival on July 3, 1958 (1-7) by the same members as "Kind of Blue," and the studio sessions held in May of the same year (8-11), on one disc. In the spring of 1958, Miles made personnel changes, with Jimmy Cobb replacing Philly Joe Jones on drums and Bill Evans replacing Red Garland on piano. With the two new members joining the band, Miles recorded in the studio in May and appeared at Newport in July. Recording for "Kind of Blue" began eight months after this Newport performance. Tracks 8-11 were included on "1958 Miles," released in Japan in 1979 and became a major hit, with jacket design by Masuo Ikeda. Personnel are Miles, Coltrane, Cannonball, Evans, Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb. SA-CD Hybrid (STEREO), 7-inch cardboard sleeve.
