Yayoi Kusama was born in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, in 1929. From an early age, she began creating works inspired by visions of dots and nets, developing a unique visual language that would remain at the heart of her art throughout her life.

In 1957, Kusama moved to the United States. Based in New York from the following year, she presented her Infinity Net paintings, soft sculptures, mirror and light installations, happenings, and other experimental works, establishing herself as a pioneering figure of the avant-garde.

After returning to Japan in 1973, Kusama continued to expand her creative activities beyond painting and sculpture, also writing novels and poetry. Her artistic world continued to evolve through large-scale installations, outdoor sculptures, and her celebrated "Infinity Mirror Room" series.

From 2009 to 2021, she created approximately 900 paintings for her major series "My Eternal Soul." She then began the series "Every Day I Pray for Love," continuing to explore recurring themes of infinity, life, death, and love.

Kusama's work has been exhibited at major museums around the world, and her art has reached audiences far beyond the traditional art world. In recognition of her remarkable achievements, she received numerous honors, including Japan's Order of Culture in 2016. The Yayoi Kusama Museum opened in Tokyo in 2017.

Until her final days, Kusama continued to devote herself to painting and artistic creation. Through an extraordinary career spanning more than seven decades, she created a unique artistic universe that continues to inspire people around the world.
