Motoi Sakuraba is a composer and keyboardist with an overwhelming presence in the world of game music. Having colored numerous classic games including the "Star Ocean", "Valkyrie Profile", and "Tales of" series, he releases two completely newly written albums at the same time. This album pushes synthesizers to the fore, making full use of a keyboard group including the HAMMOND C3, MINIMOOG, PROPHET-10, Mellotron, and acoustic piano, along with various synthesizers, drum machines, acoustic drums, and software sound sources. The track titles themselves stimulate the imagination, and the album builds a fantastical, dramatic world of sound that calls to mind themes such as light and darkness, memory, time, and emotion. Here Sakuraba's dedication to the synthesizer can be felt more clearly, and the sound image he himself cites for it is a resonance reminiscent of the introduction to "Alaska" by the progressive rock band U.K. From there it widens further into synthesizer sounds that call to mind Tangerine Dream, unfolding a fantastical and dramatic world. In contrast to "Philosophical Return", which pushed the dynamism of a band sound to the fore, this album builds a more introspective and fantastical world through electronic sounds and keyboards, and it contains 15 songs in all. It also includes liner notes by Sakuraba himself with commentary on every song, something fans will covet.
