1974年10月6日に第一話が放送された「宇宙戦艦ヤマト」が2024年50周年を迎えた。1977年12月25日に日本コロムビアから発売された「交響組曲 宇宙戦艦ヤマト」はBGMを担当した宮川泰氏がBGMを再編曲・再編集してフルオーケストラで再録音したアルバムで、アニメサントラの金字塔となった大ヒットアルバム。今作は50周年記念作品としてオリジナルマルチテープから新規にトラックアップしたデジタル素材をリミックスした音源でアナログ盤、CDの2形態を発売。ミキサーには数々の日本プロ音楽賞を受賞する塩沢利安を起用、LPカッテイングエンジニは武沢茂、CDマスタリングには「YAMATO SOUND ALMANAC」シリーズ、「宇宙戦艦ヤマト 2202」音楽商品のマスタリングエンジニアを務める山下由美子を指名。こちらは、アナログ盤。
