[角川シネマコレクション2018年 2月度: 男優特集] 三度の飯より将棋好き、何度泣かせた女房に子供。将棋の鬼・坂田三吉の半生を阪妻の名演で描く! ――明治の終わり頃、大阪は天王寺付近。将棋が何より大好きで、玄人顔負けの強さで知られた坂田三吉という男がいた。家族を省みず将棋に打ち込む夫に、妻・小春の苦労は絶えず、とうとう娘を連れて家出、心中を試みるが、長屋の仲間に助けられる。それを知った三吉はきっぱり将棋をやめる決意をするが、夫の将棋に対する尋常でない想いを感じ取った小春は、「どうせやるなら日本一の将棋指しになれ」と励ますのだった。
