Gokudo No Onna tachi - Joen is a film that contains brilliant action, a story of revenge set in the world of the Yakuza. Murder, mayhem, and death seem to be at every turn, and the film works its way toward a very violent climax set in the beauty of architectural splendor and calmness. Blood sprayed against shoji screens, bodies falling into tranquil pools, everyday life brought to a stand still are just some of the many qualities of this film that makes you wanting more. Reiko Takashima shines in a performance so real you feel that she has always been in charge of this underworld gang, and still vulnerable. Even as the credits roll at the end of the film you get the hint that there is more to come, and hopefully this is true for four years has been far too long to wait. If you purchase no other action film this year buy this one. You will not be disappointed!
