[鈴木清順生誕100周年記念シリーズ] 若きファイター和田浩治が不屈の闘志に燃える本格ボクシング映画。和田の宿敵には新人平田大三郎が扮し、その他共演には野呂圭介、沢道子、金子信雄、渡辺美佐子ら多彩な演技陣。――幼馴染の三井金治 (和田浩治) と下山藤吉 (野呂圭介) はボクシングチャンピオンの夢を目指して故郷の小さな島を後にした。東京に出た二人は伊庭組の千田という男と知り合いになる。伊庭組はボクシングジムも経営するヤクザだった。下山はそのまま伊庭のOKジムに残るも、三井は怪しい雰囲気を感じ、そこを飛び出してしまう。三井が肩を落として街を歩いていると、憧れの新進ボクサー・飯野 (平田大三郎) の写真が載ったポスターが目にとまる。そのクラブの名は原口ボクシングクラブ。予想以上におんぼろのジムだったが、希望に燃える三井の目には輝かしいジムに映った。三井は住み込みの練習生として置いてもらい、毎日道場の手伝いをしながら合間を縫って練習を続けていく。そんな三井の情熱に原口は次第に惚れ込んでいく。ある日、原口の愛弟子である飯野が設備の整った大洋拳に移籍することになり・・・。
