Description

For 15 years, Stanley Kubrick had been developing this movie based on Brian Aldiss' short story, "Supertoys Last All Summer long". Shortly before his passing away, he passed on the project to Steven Spielberg. The film was greeted with mixed reviews. In a way, it' exactly what was expected of it., i.e. a film by a pair of totally different (even diametrically opposite in many ways) geniuses. Granted, the film is neither a jolly family-oriented fare like Spielberg's "E.T. The Extraterrestrial" nor an intellectual head-trip like Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey", but it's visually stunning, provocative, technically superb, and at least asks some interesting questions. The fact that the talents of the two filmmakers were not blended into form perfection doesn't detract from all that's going for it. Haley Joel Osment once again proves what an exceptional young actor he is!
