2019年、デビュー50周年を迎えるキング・クリムゾン。1969年のデビュー時から今日至るまで膨大な音源を有するザ・キング・クリムゾン・コレクターズ・クラブから定番音源、レア音源を紹介する50周年記念企画! キング・クリムゾンはとんでもない爆音バンドだった。その証拠がこれ! クリムゾン史上、最も年間公演数が多かった1973年。アルバム『太陽と戦慄』発売に合わせたヨーロッパ・ツアー・イタリア編。オーディエンス録音で抜けが今一つの上、こもりもあるがそれを差し引いても興味深い音源。オーディエンス録音ブートレグ由来の音源だったため、『暗黒の世界』ボックスには未収録。初CD化。この時期の音源はサウンドボードであっても会場でどういう音がどのくらいの音量で鳴っていたかの判断は難しいのだが、このオーディエンス録音音源は会場の空気感を不思議なくらいよく捉えている。普通なら割れて聴けたものではなくなる寸前のところで録音された実は稀有な音源。クリムゾン、この時期笑いがこみ上げるほど爆音だったことが良く分かる。思わず嬉しくなります。また、どの位置で録音したのかはわからないのだが、ギターとベース、特にフリップのギター・プレイは全編、どういうプレイをしているのかがはっきりと分かる。ベースの若干こもっていて輪郭が少しぼやけているものの同様にしっかりと記録されている。サウンドボード音源でもここまで分かりやすく聴き取れる音源はそうザラにはないのだ。一般向けではないが、マニアの研究資料としては一級品! まさにコレクターズ・クラブならではの音源なのだ!
