This is the second film by up-and-coming director Hashiura Masato, who won the New Director's Award of the Directors Guild of Japan. The film was shot entirely on location in the seaside of Noto, Hokuriku in early spring, with the cooperation of the Kakumiya, a former samurai-ship wholesaler designated as an important cultural asset by Ishikawa Prefecture, and features multilayered images by Hashiura, who won the Directors Guild of Japan's New Directors Award for "Marionette in the Starry Sky" in 1978. This was the first film that launched ATG into the 80's. From this film, ATG's advertising methods and style also began to change. Iyo is 15 years old and lives with her father and grandmother in a town in Hokuriku. One morning, her father rescues a woman on the beach. Although she survived, she had lost her memory. When the woman starts staying at home, Iyo senses that the atmosphere in the family has started to change little by little. The impressionable Iyo's heart is greatly shaken with the memory of her late mother...

少女は、美しいはずの「早春」に向かってひきがねを引いた。記念すべきATG80年代の第一作! 日本映画監督協会新人賞を受賞した気鋭、橋浦方人監督第二作。早春の北陸能登の海辺でのオールロケ、石川県の重要文化財に指定の旧廻船問屋「角海家」の協力を得て重層的な映像を綴るのは、78年に『星空のマリオネット』で日本映画監督協会新人賞を受賞した橋浦方人。ATGが80年代に突入した第一作目で、本作からATGの宣伝方法や作風も変化をしていくこととなる。──北陸の町に父と祖母と住む15歳の伊代。ある朝父は海岸で女を助ける。命は取りとめたものの女は記憶を失っていた。その女が家に留まるようになってから家族の空気が少しづつ変化し始めたことを感じる伊代。多感な伊代の心は、亡き母の記憶とともに大きく揺れ動く・・・。
