Hoshi Meguri no Machi

[Machine Translation] A fateful encounter between a boy who lost his family and a tofu maker who lives honestly. This is a story that teaches us the importance of life through the rebirth of the heart. Master director Mitsuo Kurotsuchi depicts a moving human drama set in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, a manufacturing town. The main character, Yusaku, an honest tofu maker, is played by the nationally renowned actor Kobayashi Minoru Samurai, who makes his first starring appearance in this film at the age of 76. The role of the boy who lost his family is played by Yota Arai, a Cinderella boy chosen by audition. -Yusaku, who lost his wife early and lives alone with his only daughter Shiho. Trained in Kyoto as a tofu maker, Yusaku takes the time and trouble to make delicious tofu every morning and delivers it to housewives and cooks in the town. One day, accompanied by a police officer, Yusaku is visited by Masami, a boy who lost his entire family in an instant after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Masami is a distant relative of his late wife. Yusaku quietly watches over Masami, who is still traumatized by this sudden misfortune. Living with Yusaku, who is self-sufficient and rooted in nature, Masami's heart is gradually rebuilt, like a thin layer of skin peeling off one layer at a time. However, while Yusaku is out on a delivery, the town is hit by a huge tremor. Masami, who was left alone to look after the house, relives the horror of the earthquake and runs away from home and disappears.

家族を失った少年と、実直に生きる豆腐屋との運命の出会い。心の再生を通じて、生きていくことの大切さを教えてくれる物語。巨匠・黒土三男監督がものづくりのまち愛知県豊田市を舞台に描く感動のヒューマンドラマ。主人公の実直な豆腐屋・勇作を演じるのは、76歳にして本作が初主演となる国民的名優・小林稔侍。家族を失った少年役は、オーディションで選ばれたシンデレラボーイの荒井陽太。――妻を早くに亡くし、一人娘の志保と二人暮らしをする勇作。京都で豆腐作りの修業を積んだ勇作は、毎朝じっくりと手間と時間をかけて美味しい豆腐を作り、町の主婦や料理屋に届ける生活を続けていた。そんなある日、勇作の元に、警察官に付き添われ、東日本大震災で津波により家族全員を一瞬で失った少年・政美がやって来る。亡き妻の遠縁にあたるという政美。突然の不幸により心に傷を抱える政美を、勇作はただ静かに見守り続ける。自然に根差した自給自足の勇作との暮らしの中で、薄皮が一枚、また一枚とはがれるように、少しずつ心を再生させていく政美。しかし、勇作が配達に出ている最中、町が大きな揺れに襲われ、一人で留守番をしていた政美は震災の恐怖がよみがえり、家を飛び出し姿を消してしまう・・・。
