Angel's Egg, conceived by Yoshitaka Amano (Original Concept / Art Direction) and Mamoru Oshii (Original Concept / Screenplay / Director), is a legendary animated work born in 1985 through the collaboration of two world-renowned creators. The announcement of a 4K remaster for its 40th anniversary in 2025 generated major attention worldwide, followed by an extraordinary festival run including Cannes, Annecy, and the Tokyo International Film Festival.

Now, the source of its striking visual identity-the complete set of original image boards-is collected in a full-scale art book for the first time. Although a portion was previously published in books and magazines, this edition includes the entire set of 276 pieces created for the film.

Every board was hand-drawn by a young Yoshitaka Amano with elegant, delicate strokes. More than interim production material, each piece stands as a finished work of art in itself. All boards have been photographed-not scanned-in high resolution, and printed on thick, premium paper with exceptional fidelity. The subtle textures of pencil and brushwork are reproduced with stunning clarity, offering an experience akin to viewing the originals.

原案・アートディレクション 天野喜孝、原案・脚本・監督 押井守による『天使のたまご』は世界的な評価を得る2人のクリエイターが1985年に産み出した伝説的なアニメ作品である。公開40周年を迎える2025年に4Kリマスター版の製作のニュースは国内外で大きな話題を呼び、その後、カンヌ映画祭、アヌシー国際アニメーション映画祭、東京国際映画祭などの世界的な映画祭に続々出品する快挙を果たす。 改めて世界的な再評価を受ける本作の、傑出したアートデザインの源泉となるイメージボードが今回初めて画集になる。イメージボードは過去に書籍などでいくつか掲載されたが、本書では当時描かれた276点を完全収録。 若き日の天野喜孝が、美麗かつ繊細なタッチで1点ずつ描いたイメージボードはアニメの中間制作物の枠にとどまらず、そのすべてが絵画として完成しているといっても過言ではない。イメージボードは276点の原画すべてをスキャンではなく高解像度で撮影し、厚みのある上質紙に高精細の印刷を施した。息をのむほど美しい天野喜孝の鉛筆や筆のタッチに、まるで原画を手に取って眺めているような錯覚に陥るかもしれない。
