In 2000, the United States and Sudan teamed up to relocate 3,600 young people from refugee camps across the United States. What happened to the young people who were suddenly handed a ticket to the land of the free and the drama that ensued between them and the Americans who hosted them? This is a surprising and moving story based on the true story of the "Lost Boys," as they were called. --Carrie, who works at a job placement agency in Kansas City, goes to the airport to meet Mameer and his two friends who have arrived from Sudan. They are the "Lost Boys," refugees who lost their parents in the civil war. Carrie, who has done her job well, is given the most difficult mission of all: to get them jobs, as they have never even seen a telephone before. She was asked to check if there were any wild beasts at the ranch, and she had to make sure there were no McDonald's or pizza. They have never heard of McDonald's or pizza, but as she watches them grow, they develop an unexpected friendship and even change their way of life.
