The diverse artists who share Hasunuma's recent sound memories are Jeff Parker, a guitarist known for his releases on International Anthem and Nonsuch Records, and Keigo Oyamada of Cornelius, with whom Hasunuma also performs live. Keigo Oyamada's layered guitar sound, Keiji Haino's various instrumental performances, New York drummer Greg Fox, Kom_i's generous and expansive voice, and Okinawa-based Mutsumi Aragaki, who plays the sansen and samban. Guests include guitarist Shuta Ishizuka, who also performs with the Hasunuma Shuta Philharmonic Orchestra, and Fumiya Otonashi, who plays the Japanese instrument sho. The sounds of musicians from various fields of activity and their musical styles come together to raise the sonic contrast of this album. The sound work encompasses techno, ambient, jazz, post-classical, and even contemporary music, creating a free and airy sound that is similar to the diverse activities of Hasunuma Shuta himself. This is his first studio recording album in seven years, since his singing album "Melodies" (2016). This is his first instrumental album in 15 years since "POP OOGA" (2008). During production, the core instruments of the album were recorded and mixed at Hasunuma's private studios in Brooklyn and Tokyo. The sounds were co-mixed with Hasunuma's close friend and engineer Toshihiko Kasai. Mastering was done by Guy Davie ( Electric Mastering ). The collaboration with his trusted engineer was used to pursue a solid sound. The artwork, titled "unpeople," is composed of art direction by photographers Riku Ikeya and Seri Tanaka. The collaboration between Hasunuma, Ikeya, and Tanaka began with the artwork for the nine previously released singles, and an exhibition of the same title, "unpeople," by the three artists will open at POST, an art book store in Ebisu, from September 1, 2012. コロナ・パンデミック以降、NYブルックリンから東京へと拠点を移した蓮沼執太は、蓮沼執太フィルでの活動はもちろんのこと、アート作品の展示から映画、ドラマ、テレビなどの劇伴まで、国内外の芸術分野を縦横無尽に活動している。そんな躍進の中で、じっくりとマイペースに「純粋に自分のための音楽」として作り続けていたのが、このアルバムである。制作期間5年の間、蓮沼執太自身が奏でた音、集めた音、場所や人々との記憶、記録がすべて収録されている。その音は、器楽音から非楽器と電子音、そしてフィールド・レコーディングまで。あらゆる音を等価に扱う事で『unpeople』という作品をアート・ミュージックとして、まとめあげている。蓮沼の近年の音の記憶とも言えるサウンドワークを共に輝かせる多彩なアーティストは、International AnthemやNonsuch Recordsからの作品リリースで知られるギタリスト Jeff Parker、ライブでも共演をしている Cornelius 小山田圭吾によるレイヤーが重なるギターサウンド、蓮沼と不定期にコラボレーションを続ける灰野敬二の様々な楽器演奏、NYのドラマー Greg Fox、おおらかで豊かな広がりをもった KOM_I のヴォイス、三線や三板を演奏する沖縄在住の新垣睦美。蓮沼執太フィルでも活動をするギタリスト石塚周太、和楽器笙の音無史哉がゲストを参加している。活動領域やその音楽性も様々なミュージシャンの音が集い、このアルバムの音のコントラストを上げている。テクノ、アンビエント、ジャズ、ポストクラシカル、現代音楽までも内包しているサウンドワークは、蓮沼執太自身の多岐にわたる活動のように、自由で風通しの良い音の響きを創出している。スタジオ・レコーディング・アルバムとしては、歌唱作品『メロディーズ』(2016)以来7年ぶり。インストゥルメント作品では『POP OOGA』(2008)以来15年ぶりの作品リリースとなり、満を持して送り出す一枚となる。プロダクションにおいては、蓮沼のブルックリンと東京でのプライベート・スタジオでアルバム中核となる楽器のレコーディング、ミックスが行われた。それらの音を蓮沼の盟友エンジニア・葛西敏彦と共同ミックスを行った。マスタリングは Guy Davie (Electric Mastering)によるもの。信頼するエンジニアとの協働によって、確固たる音響を追求している。『unpeople』という人間不在を感じさせるタイトルのアートワークは、写真家・池谷陸と田中せりによるアート・ディレクションで構成されている。事前にリリースされている配信シングル9曲のアートワークから蓮沼、池谷、田中の三者によるコラボレーションがスタートした。9月1日から恵比寿にあるアートブックショップPOSTでは、三者による同タイトルの展覧会『unpeople』もスタートする。音楽からアートへ、アートから音楽へ。芸術の新しい可能性が広がる展開がここから始まっている。蓮沼執太、音の現在地がこのアルバムである。
