Monk Studies [SHM-CD]

[Machine Translation] [Chihiro Yamanaka's 20th Anniversary Encore Press] A tribute album to Thelonious Monk, one of the greatest musicians in the history of jazz, along with Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and a jazz pianist whom Chihiro Yamanaka admires. This project was initiated when Yamanaka had the opportunity to work with a rhythm section that could realize the idea of reinterpreting Thelonious Monk, an idea he had long harbored. The rhythm section includes Dean Toni Parks, the original human-powered drum machine, who has been in the spotlight as the drummer for Mars Volta, Flying Lotus, and on Thundercat's latest album, as well as a regular bass player for the American legendary hip-hop group The Roots, and a drummer for the American rock band The Roots, On bass, Mark Kelly, a regular bassist for the American reggae hip-hop group The Roots, and other musicians who can be considered at the cutting edge of experimental jazz. The album is an edgy and ambitious work that challenges the new future of jazz. It also includes three original compositions by Yamanaka himself. Original release: June 21, 2017.
