Def Leppard's On Through the Night (1980) is seen as a raw, promising debut, capturing the band's New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) roots with energetic, hook-filled hard rock, showcasing great guitar work (Clark/Willis) and young talent, though sometimes hampered by slightly slow tempos and bottom-heavy production that doesn't fully match its live power. It's praised for tracks like "Rock Brigade," "Wasted," and "Rocks Off," but noted for its unpolished sound compared to later albums, making it a treat for dedicated hard rock fans looking for a heavier, less glam-focused Leppard . Fantastic SHM-CD Sound in nice Cardboard Sleeve. Top!

I missed out on the original SHM-CD mini-LP release of Def Leppard's debut album a few years ago, so I was thrilled to see it and the rest of the Def Leppard discography get re-issued on SHM-CD in the collectible Mini-LP format, and this time all of the obi strips replicate the original Japanese vinyl releases! On Through the Night isn't one of my favorite Def Leppard albums, but I do enjoy the pure raw power behind it. Had rock with a punk edge sums up this one. Not terrible by no means, but it's more of a taste of things to come from this amazing band.
