I know almost nothing about Ethel Smith. This CD was attractive to me because of its Hawaiian angle and the fact that it was part of the fantastic Aloha Smile series. After a few listenings, it really grows on you. The tunes are Ethel, on organ, and a rather small combo backing her up. The sound is suprisingly less like a rollerskate rink and more ultra-lounge. Its not really Hawaiian in flavor other than the songs selection, but its a nice lounge album--hence the title "perfect for a pineapple martini." Sound quality is first rate, as usual. Note to Aloha Smile producers: Keep up the great work with more vintage Hawaiian releases, particularly the vintage Decca artist: Gene Rains Group!
