At this point Zeppelin's popularity was at its peak, but at the same time the band had grown so large that things were becoming difficult to control, and they found themselves facing all kinds of trouble. The tour undertaken amid these circumstances was the largest ever, planned mainly around stadium shows, and multiple-night stands were scheduled in several major cities, including New York's Madison Square Garden, with a total of 51 shows planned, all of which sold out. However, after 44 shows had been completed, the death of Robert Plant's son Karac led to the remaining 7 shows being canceled. In addition, the start of the tour had already been pushed back a month due to Plant's laryngitis, and by the time this happened the equipment had already been shipped to the United States, leaving the band without their instruments on hand and causing problems with rehearsal. On top of that, drug use within the band was said to be severe during this period, which likely affected the performances as well, with Jimmy Page in particular showing this tendency noticeably. A feature of this tour was the addition of an acoustic set in the middle of the show, for which John Paul Jones used a custom-made acoustic guitar combining 6-string, 12-string, and mandolin necks in one instrument. This was also the tour on which Page wore his now-famous silk suit decorated with flowers and a dragon. This May 21 Houston show falls in the middle of the tour's schedule, and while an official record exists that it was filmed, the footage remains unreleased to this day. Since a great many recordings survive from this 1977 tour, it can be interesting to compare different versions. Naturally, a must-have for fans.

良質なライブ音源をセレクトするシリーズ、トレジャーアーク! ツェッペリン史上最大規模となった1977年の北米ツアーから5月21日のテキサス州ヒューストン公演を収録。3時間に渡る熱演をフル収録! レッド・ツェッペリンの1977年の＜North American Tour＞から、5月21日のテキサス州ヒューストンのザ・サミット公演を収録。この頃のツェッペリンは人気が頂点にあったことと同時に、バンドが巨大になりすぎてコントロールが効かず、様々なトラブルに直面するようになっていた。そんな中で行われたツアーは過去最大のもので、スタジアムを中心に計画され、ニューヨークのマディソン・スクェア・ガーデンほかいくつかの大都市では複数日の連続公演が組まれたが、計51公演はすべてソールドアウト。しかし、44公演を消化したところで、ロバート・プラントの息子のカラックが亡くなったことで残りの7公演はキャンセルされることとなった。また、スタート時もプラントの喉頭炎によって予定が1ヶ月後ろ倒しとなり、機材をすでにアメリカに送った後だったため、手元に楽器がなくリハーサルに支障が出た。加えて、この頃はバンド内でのドラッグ使用も酷かったようで、そういったことが演奏面にも影響していたと思われる。特にジミー・ペイジにはその傾向が顕著だった。このツアーの特徴は、中盤にアコースティック・セットを設けたことで、ジョン・ポール・ジョーンズが6弦、12弦、マンドリンを一体化した特注のアコースティック・ギターを使用した。また、ペイジがあまりにも有名な白地に花とドラゴンが描かれたシルクのスーツを着用したのもこのツアーだった。この5月21日のヒューストン公演は日程の中盤に位置するもので、公式に映像が録画された記録があるが未公開のままだ。この77年のツアーは音源がたくさん残されているので、聴き比べてみるのも一興だろう。もちろんマニアは必携。
