Led Zeppelin's magnum opus. A near perfect package which demonstrates a masterful blending of all the styles the band had thus far explored.

I had an old release of this from the 90's and it was just ok. This SHM version is very much improved, especially on the percussion. Also, the mini LP packaging with die-cut windows is awesome.

There is a significant improvement in sound quality from the redbook remastered cd. Blind test - six people - every one chose the SHM-CD format as their favourite disc.

Something would be wrong with the world as we know if if these cds did not SOUND the same as the standard cd versions. If you listen for SOUND rather than MUSIC you might not be able to hear a difference. But those of us who can are not delusional. The SHMCD seems to make the transition between reading the data and playing it back smoother, so you have a more coherent, more accurate and therefore more musical sound presentation. There's less disturbance from extramusical factors and therefore more clarity between the instruments and voices. If you listen for MUSIC (which is easy: just put it on and enjoy) you will be struck by the way instruments and voices emerge from their musical environment and how coherent it all sounds. Coherence and accuracy, I think, are what we hear subjectively as a sweeter sounding presentation. If you have an expensive cd player it possibly already does what these SHMCDs allow cheaper ones to do. The manufacturers (Universal?) have stumbled onto a good way of making cds. They might have been looking for a way of making the physical medium indispensible: the sound benefits do not transfer onto a computer once the data has been copied. Maybe all cds should be made like this and the price adjusted down. Until that happens I won't be buying many of these but I'm really enjoying the few I have.

I compared the SHM disk to the same non-shm remaster, and the '91 4-disk box set, and there is absolutily NO DIFFERENCE in the sound. Anyone who convinces themselves otherwise are simply dillusional. I really wanted this to sound better, as Phy. Graf, my favorite Zep album, basically lacks in sound quality. Very flat and compressed sounding. I have a very high-end sound system, so I would be able to hear a difference, if one existed, which it does NOT. If you want to waste your money, knock yourself out, but I'm cancelling the SHM order I had for The Who; Who's Next.

I have seen bloggers refer to SHM cds as SHAM or SCHMUCK cds, well the only SCHMUCKs out there are those Zep fanatics who don't own these SHM cds. It would be a real SHAMe if all you skeptics didn't take a chance and give these babies a listen or two (or million!),you don't what your ears are missing! Just ask Regan, he will tell you!

Just the best sounding versions of these CDs ever made for a regular CD player. This is NOT a gimmick and / or snake oil. They sound far better than the 1994 re-masters and the 2003 Japanese Paper Sleeve Editions. MORE PLANT , depth , separation , balance and no compression issues at all. Get these fantastic sounding , LED ZEP [SHM-CDs] , while you still can. Any negative reviews are from those people that have never even heard these , SHM-CDs. They are all just guessing about how they sound and they are , LED WRONG!!!
