Yoshiki Uematsu is one of the greatest master artisans in Kumano, the brushmaking capital of the world. [Friendship with Rakusho Hiroto]
Hiroto Rakusho, known to represent Japan as a Master artisan of gold and silver leaf art, is indispensable when designing this project. Born in the metal leaf pattern painting industry in Nishijin, Kyoto, he is the one and only metal leaf artist with a unique sense and technique. Yoshiaki Nakano often visited Hiroto Rakusho's atelier in Kyoto, where genuine modernity is alive, and had no doubt that the traditional technique unleashed in front of him creates something far beyond his imagination. As a result, the work of art that embodies their worldviews surprises and repels everyone who sees it.

Yoshiaki Nakano as a makeup artist, pursuing the world of beauty, has no doubt to choose makeup brushes made in Kumano, Hiroshima where he met Yoshiki Uematsu. Entering the world of brushes at the age of 18, Yoshiki Uematsu is one of the best brush craftsmen in Japan who created a reproduction of the Tenpyo brush enshrined in Shosoin at a young age. Feeling something in common with their sensibility as an artist and the idea of creating value for manufacturing, they decided to collaborate and immediately started creating prototypes.

Co-starring metal leaf and brush-in addition to the color of the metal leaf and brush, the pursuit of brush feels and usability, they never compromise with each other. They discussed many times and made prototypes to create the perfect product.

-Rakusho Hiroto
Rakusho Hiroto was born in 1962 in the Nishijin district of Kyoto. He apprenticed with his father, Jisaku Nishiyama, winner of the City of Kyoto Award for Outstanding Technical Contribution to Traditional Handicrafts. In addition to carrying on the family tradition, he is active in the creative production of gold and silver leaf patterns as an art form and collaborated with various artists such as Bakuzan Sakaki. He is also active in Italy and France. Moreover, he has worked on a wide variety of creative projects, including the restoration of art objects and interior design at places like the Kyoto National Museum and the Nagoya Marriott Associate Hotel. In his work for the Digital Archive Project, which is aimed at preserving cultural properties, Hiroto employs reproductive techniques never before used by any other metal leaf artist, guided by his own theory and experience. He is thus able to preserve precious cultural properties, put them to good use and introduce them to the rest of the world. His technique of reproducing old paintings with metal leaf has been patented. In 2004, Hiroto was inaugurated as director of the Kyoto International Cultural Foundation. In 2006, he completed a meticulous reproduction of the folding screen "Wind and Thunder Gods," which is a designated national treasure, and dedicated it to Ken'ninji Temple-Japan's oldest Zen temple. He also reproduced various pictures on the partitions located at Nanzenji Temple, Myoshinji Temple, Shokokuji Temple, Zuishin-in Temple, Nijo Castle and Nagoya Castle. He has also taken part in a project to reproduce Japanese art works in foreign museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Seattle Art Museum. - Yoshiaki Nakano
Representative Director of N2 luana Co., Ltd. Contracted with a major cosmetics giant, he was in charge of makeup for TV, magazines and movies. Since 1999, he was active as an exclusive make-up artist for Parfums Givenchy, resigned in March 2020 and set up N2 luana Company Limited.

Yoshiaki Nakano, a Parfums Givenchy Top Senior Makeup Artist and Trainer, had an unwavering reputation for his makeup that maximizes Givenchy's couture spirit and the beauty of women. He was in charge of not only makeup for customers at Givenchy, but also that for various media and fields such as magazines. He proposed products sold in Japan to the Givenchy France head office from the development stage, and in particular, the development of makeup brushes he was involved with highly evaluated in various fields and had a high reputation in the media. He has built strong trust with Givenchy Makeup a Color Artistic Director, Nicolas Degennes and works together with him as his right-hand. He is also in charge of training Givenchy staff nationwide, teaching techniques, concepts and worldviews so that each one can respond to the needs of their customers and make them happy. He expressed worldview to the full extent of Givenchy's makeup from various aspects. He held makeup seminars in the LVMH groups such as LOUIS VUITTON, FENDI and GIVENCHY JAPAN. Outside the group, he held such seminars at SWAROVSKI, LONGCHAMP, NTT, BMW, GRAND HYATT and HYATT CENTRIC. He has also appeared on other media TVs. Overseas, he was invited to T Galleria BY DFS HAWAll as an international make-up artist twice a year at an event. In 2019, he was invited as a special guest on the 60th anniversary of Ryubi Gakuen in Okinawa to perform his makeup techniques. He became independent in 2020 and is now an up-and-coming artist who is expected to be the most active in the makeup industry.

- Yoshiki Uematsu
At the age of 18, Yoshiki Uematsu started his career in the brush production in Kumano. He first leant Bonmaze-the common method of mixing dry hair and Daimaze- the method of mixing weasel, followed by training to make Tanuki (raccoon dog) brushes, he has mastered a variety of brush making techniques. At the age of 28, he made a reproduction of the Tenpyo brush, which is enshrined in the Shosoin, the treasure house of Todai-ji Temple built in 756, in Nara and which can only be made by one person. The reproduction he made became a hot topic at that time as manufacturing techniques of Tenpyo brush were not passed down. In 1978, he set up Koyudo and established KOYUDO COMPANY LIMTED in 1990. While growing this company into a comprehensive manufacturer of various brushes such as calligraphy brushes or makeup brushes, he has been engaged in the discovery and training of traditional craftsmen with the skill transfer of Kumano brushe as his life work, and has produced more than 500 disciples all over the world. In addition to his excellent manufacturing techniques, he also excels in the ability to procure natural hair, which is the life of the brush, and has built his own supply chain. Even now, he continues to convey the possibilities of Kumano brushes to the world.

3. ONO no Komachi
Black and white symbolizes the beauty of ONO no Komachi, a matchless Kajin (poet) and extraordinary calligrapher in the Heian Era. The finest goat hair, Saibikoho used on the bristles for a whisper soft and velvety feel, has a scarcity value and rarely used on the makeup brush. (Gray squirrel is also used on the ONO no Komac hi)

*Do not wash it and leave it wet for a long time.
*Discoloration or deformation might occur if placed in hot places, exposed to direct sunlight and swept with a cloth that contains paint thinner, benzine, etc.
*Store this product in cool and dry places - mold and rust might occur if stored for long periods in places of high temperature and hot humidity.
*This product is handcrafted - actual product may vary and look different from the one on the photo.
*Metal leaf pasted on the wood handle might rub off with repeated use.
*Delicate and not shock-resistant as the nature of this product- dropping it or contact with sharp edges might cause damage to this product.

- About the bristles on the makeup brush
*Each time you use the brush, tap off any excess makeup on the bristles.
*If you use the brushes on a daily basis, place them in a brush holder/glass, handle down.
*Note that dyed bristles might breed when washed.
*In case of any skin irregularities, discontinue its use immediately.

- About the furoshiki
The furoshiki used for wrapping the brush is made of 100% pure silk (shoken). It is the most typical material used for furoshiki, and is a uniquely Japanese fabric that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. A strong twist is applied to the weft yarn. The weft is twisted strongly, and the return force of the twist is used to produce the "crinkles". Pure silk crape has a moderate sheen and a soft, fluffy, high-quality texture. It is a material that Japan is proud to present to the world. (NOTE: Not washable)
This brush is wrapped with "migimae-maki" (migimae refers to the order of pulling the right side over first and then the left side) as if the brush were a person and the furoshiki were a kimono. We wear kimono with the right side under the left. We should focus on is pulling the right side over your chest first, migimae, so that you can easily reach into the open chest area and use it as a pocket. "migimae-maki" is said to have been legalized in the Nara period. There are several theories.
