A recording of the San Francisco performance on Friday, December 5, 1980 by three of the world's greatest guitarists, known as the "Super Guitar Trio": John McLaughlin (born January 4, 1942), Al Di Meola (born July 22, 1954), and the late Paco de Lucia (1947-2014). At the time, a live performance featuring only acoustic guitars was extremely rare, and upon its initial release in 1981, it became one of the most talked-about masterpieces of the 20th century. Al Di Meola, who gained early recognition as a member of Return to Forever; John McLaughlin, who played a key role during Miles Davis's electric period and was influenced by Indian music and flamenco; and Paco de Lucia, the legendary master of flamenco guitar, deliver a breathtaking display of virtuosic guitar interplay, filled with overwhelming intensity and a vivid sense of immediacy. The recording includes the sublime "Mediterranean Sundance," "Frevo," a unique interpretation of a masterpiece by Egberto Gismonti, and the dramatic "Fantasia Suite," where the three masters clash brilliantly, showcasing extraordinary technique and passion for the acoustic guitar. A masterpiece that vividly captures the crisp articulation and rich, dynamic attack unique to acoustic guitars, offering an exhilarating and deeply moving listening experience.
